The third season starts out with quite a different feel than we've been used to for the past two seasons. From the early scenes within the Panamanian prison of Sona, we see that Fox River was a wonderful vacation resort in comparison. Hot, filthy and lacking any internal guards, everyone is left on their own, for the most part. Internally run by inmate Lechero, Sona is like one big Thunderdome where people settle their differences by killing each other. Lechero calls all the shots within the prison, including who fights, who eats, who gets water and, as we see early on of Bellick, who gets clothing.
The season opener finds Michael Scofield in Sona, a hellish and deadly Panamanian prison where a previous riot has forced all authority out and has left the prisoners in charge of their own lives. With the fate of his loved ones hanging in the balance, Michael must to find Whistler, a mysterious fellow inmate hiding within the prison's sewer system, in order to break him out from a prison from which there is no way out. Meanwhile, Lincoln searches for a missing Sara and receives troubling news about LJ.
